Impersonation in exam: Postman among two arrested

Police said that the accused postman had also appeared in three exams of Delhi Police constables at Bikaner, Staff Selection Commission (SSC) MTS exam at Patiala and Junior Technician in Electrical Division, Chandigarh.

The CRIME Branch has arrested two people — a postman who acted as an impersonator and the actual candidate who paid money to the former for appearing on his behalf in the exam for the post of Junior Technician. The exam was held in the month of April at Panjab University.
The accused were identified as impersonator postman Pawan Kumar, 36, and the actual candidate, Naveen Kumar, 31. Both are residents of Kaithal district in Haryana.

Police said the accused postman was earlier arrested in a case of cheating by the Haryana Police. He was brought on production warrants in Chandigarh last week. Accused Naveen Kumar was arrested on Sunday.

Police said accused postman Pawan Kumar had impersonated himself as a candidate and appeared in the examination by pasting his own photographs on the admit card, putting his own finger prints as well as signature on the attendant sheet while the role number was meant for Naveen Kumar.

Police said that the accused postman had also appeared in three exams of Delhi Police constables at Bikaner, Staff Selection Commission (SSC) MTS exam at Patiala and Junior Technician in Electrical Division, Chandigarh.

A police officer said, “Pawan Kumar was not certain whether he will pass examination or not, but charged Rs 2 lakh each for Delhi Police constable exam and SSC MTS exam and took Rs 50,000 in advance for appearing in the exam of Junior Technician in Electrical Division from Naveen Kumar, who had failed in the exam.” A case was registered at Sector 11 police station.
