Mt Carmel claim sepak takraw title
Chandigarh:
Hosts Mount Carmel School,Sector 47,emerged winner when they defeated Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 20,in the final of the First Chandigarh Inter School Sepak Takraw Championship in the boys’ Under-19 age group at the Mount Carmel School premises on Saturday. Mount Carmel won by 21-15,21-18. Meanwhile,DAV Senior Secondary School,Sector 8,humbled Ryan International School,Sector 49,21-15,21-13,to claim the third spot.

St Anne’s lift cricket title
Chandigarh:
Riding high on brilliant performances from Shivam Puri (69) and Abhinandan (67), St Anne’s School Sector 32,recorded 53-run win over Saupin’s School,Sector 32,in the final match of the 5th Sister Alberta Memorial Cricket Tournament played at St Anne’s School Sector 32 in Chandigarh on Saturday. Batting first,St Anne’s School piled on 197 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. Shivam Puri (69) and Abhinandan (67) were St Anne’s main contributors. In reply,Saupin’s team fell short of the target by 53 runs. They could only make 144 for 8 in 20 overs. Shivam Puri was declared man of the match.

Vineet to lead Punjab U-14 team
Chandigarh:
Vineet Dakha will lead Punjab in the North Zone Inter-State Uder-14 Cricket Tournament to be held in Delhi from November 20 to December 6. Punjab play their first match against Delhi on November 23 and 24 at St Stephen’s Ground. Arun Bedi and Sandeep Sawal will accompany the team as manager and coach,respectively. Punjab play Jammu and Kashmir on November 26 and 27 and Punjab’s next fixture is against Himachal Pradesh on November 29 and 30. Punjab face Haryana on December 2 and 3. All these matches will be contested at Palam. The final of the tournament is slated for December 5 and 6 at Ferozeshah Kotla grounds. The Punjab team: Vineet Dakha (Capt),Sahil Aashim Kaushal (Vice Capt,W.K) ,Rajat Sharma,Mansab Gill,Shubham Chand,Akul Partap Pandove,Karan Sharma,Jaswinder Singh,Anirudh Aggarwal,Vishwanath,Lovin Kapoor,Eshaan Mavi,Abhishek Sharma and Sanvir Singh.

Pargat’s ton lifts Punjab
Chandigarh:
Led by splendid unbeaten knock from Pargat Singh (123) and a brilliant bowling from Gurkirat Singh (5/24),Punjab Colts ended the day on a high against Bengal during Cooch Behar Trophy for U-19 played in Kolkata. In reply to Bengal’s 84 in the first innings,Punjab finished the day on 190 for one in 45 overs. Bengal team was bundled out for 84 runs in 44 overs. It was medium-pacer Kamal Passi who got things rolling for Punjab. He bagged three quick wickets and put Bengal on the defensive. It was then the Punjab spinning duo of Gurkirat Singh and Gurinder Singh got into the act and shared six wickets between them. Off spinner Gurkirat Singh returned with impressive figures of 14.3-5-24-5. In reply to the Bengal total,Punjab got early blow when they lost their in form batsman Manan Vohra in the third over. Thereafter,Pargat Singh (123 no) and Ankit Pursharthy (44 no) stitched unbeaten second wicket partnership of 183 runs to put Punjab in commanding position.

Cricket tourney from December 4
Chandigarh:
Desh Prem Azad Cricket Academy is organising the Leslie Gordon Carver Inter-Academy U-17 Cricket Tournament from December 4. The tournament will be played on league-cum-knockout basis and in accordance with ODI rules. According to Desh Prem Azad,academy chairman,the matches will be of 40 overs till the semifinals. The semifinals and the final will be 50 overs matches. The organisers will provide balls and refreshments to the participanting teams. Meanwhile,qualified umpires and referees will be deployed during the matches in order to maintain the standards.

Eight teams,to be divided into two pools,will take part in the tournament. Players born or after September 1993 are eligible to take part in the tournament and the last date for sending entries is November 28. Players and interested teams can contact coach Arun Rai at 9888233943 for further information. The teams have to submit a list of 15 players along with their date of birth certificates. Matches will take place on turf wickets at various venues.

Suraj powers Kundan Academy to win
Chandigarh:
Suraj slammed a 33-ball 38 to help Kundan Cricket Academy thrash Bharti Vij St Soldier Cricket Academy by nine wickets in a low scoring match played on Saturday. Earlier,Bharti Vij Academy batted first and were bowled out for 80 in 19 overs. Saumik Viswas and Subham Nayar picked up two wickets each. Chasing the target,Kundan Academy scored 84 for the loss of one wicket in just 11 overs. Suraj’s innings included seven boundaries,while Vipul Katyal chipped in with useful 23 runs.

Natasha,Gurmahal race to glory
Panchkula:
Natasha and Gurmahal Singh claimed the top honours in senior girls and boys categories in the 100 metre race during the Vth Annual Athletic and PT display of St. Xavier’s High School at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex,Sector 3,on Saturday. Similarly,Sakshi and Mukul emerged winners in the junior girls and boys’ categories in the 100 metre race. The 4×100 metre mixed relay (seniors) was won by Artic House comprising of Pankaj,Natasha,Rachit,Vasudha. The 4 x 100 relay race for juniors was won by Atlantic House comprising Harsimran,Satyam,Niharika and Anjali. The sub-juniors 4×75 metre relay race was also won by Atlantic House consisting of Aryan,Shiv,Sangeeta and Shivani. Atlantic House took the overall winners trophy.
