Human Nature

Eight Lucknow-based artists present their artwork in a group show.

Nature has been the muse of many artists. While many have worked with it and on it,artists like Anju Paliwal are working for it,using their tools of art to show its plight. Paliwal, through ceramic ware, takes one through the earth’s despair. “The ceramic pot represents earth, and everything else stands for what we are doing to it,” says Paliwal, who showcases her collection titled “Encroachments” which also has a sub section titled “Blocks & Faces”. It comprises human faces in ceramic, expressing their disapproval. “The cracks in the pot represent the cracks in the earth,” she points out.

Paliwal’s work is a part of “Unwritten Thoughts”,a group show put up by eight artists from Lucknow. While here,Vandana Prajapati works on subjects as varied as Lord Ganesha and mushroom in ceramic,Mallika Chabba,an art curator, brings in Shiva in his varied forms. While her painting Immortal has the third eye and Shiva’s trishul on canvas,Let it Flow brings in the energy and versatility of Shiva through bright colours and bold strokes. Another artist,Rajni Bist, has painted birds and women in her works.

Working with blank spaces is Sanjay Kumar,an MFA student. His paintings have small objects that dot the canvas. “For me,an empty bright canvas reflects positive energy and the small objects I paint, stand out in contrast,” he says.
