Hosts St John’s storms into semifinals

Despite Abhishek’s brilliant all-round performance (92,4 for 22),Manav Mangal School,Mohali,lost the quarterfinal match to St John’s School,Sector 26,by 44 runs during 2nd Brother McCann cricket tournament for U-19 at St John’s School ground in Chandigarh on Saturday. With this win,St John’s School entered the semifinal stage. Batting first,St John’s School piled up a massive total of 191 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. Tejas Kang played a blazing knock of 81 runs while Vaibhav Kaushik scored 23 runs. Abhishek bowled well for Manav Mangal and scalped four wickets. Chasing 192 runs for the win was always a difficult task. Abhishek played well for his knock of 92 runs but found no support from the other end. Manav Mangal could make 147 runs in 20 overs and lost four wickets. In the second match of the day, DAV Model School,Sector 15,beat Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 26,by 60 runs. DAV-15 scored 167 runs for the loss of five wickets. Ramandeep (46) and Janath (58) were the main architects of the DAV innings. From GMSSS-26,Amar bagged two wickets. In reply,GMSSS-26,were bowled out for 107 runs. Shubham (3 for 20) and Parvesh Sharma (2 for 20) were the main wicket takers for the winning team.

Strawberry Fields School triumph

In an another match played in the U-14 section,Strawberry Fields World School recorded a seven-run win over GMSSS-26 in the league stage. Batting first,Strawberry Fields World School scored 112 runs for the loss of six in 20 overs. Chiragvir Singh Dhindsa (32) and Monarch Goyal (28) were the main scorers for Strawberry School. Both were involved in a fruitful partnership of 80 runs for the second wicket. For GMSSS-26 Abhishek bowled well to claim three wickets. In reply,GMSSS-26 could score 105 runs for eight in 20 overs. Manan Goyal and Sidharth Mahajan bowled exceedingly well to bag three wickets each.
