Hope Floats

They give hope and love to cancer patients, survivors and their families,to enable them to lead a meaningful and dignified life. Founded in ’97,Sahayta Cancer Sahyog’s fight against cancer is,multi-pronged,medical,physical,financial and social. The aim is to break the deadly silence around cancer and then strive to spread awareness about it and finally to take the modern-day diagnostic facilities to as many people as possible. As part of this endeavour, the Sahyog organised a Breast Cancer Detection and Awareness Camp recently and hired a fully equipped mobile van for breast cancer detection, with as many women as 160 women availing of the facility of free mammography. Doctors from the city and Delhi conducted the camp and spoke about how awareness can help check breast cancer and also the new treatment modalities at hand. “While in rural areas the problem is lack of awareness,in urban many women don’t take simple tests because of sheer laziness,” said Madhu Nagpal. A UK-based charity,Manjit Kaur Chawla Trust, which runs the ROKO Cancer campaign has these state-of the-art vans to screen women for breast cancer. “We travel to rural areas for awareness,” explains Dharmendra Dhillon.
