It was an occasion to remember the old glory days of Indian hockey as hockey legend Balbir Singh Senior along with Harmeek Singh,Jugraj Singh and Kanwalpreet Singh,flagged off a unique programme called ‘Pass the Josh’ to promote the upcoming Hockey World Cup in Punjab. A unique photo exhibition,capturing 100 years of Indian Hockey was unveiled on the occasion,as a part of the Pass the Josh programme. The pictures have been collected by sports film maker and curator,Sunil Yash Kalra.
Uco Vegter,Chief Marketing & Strategy Officer,ING Life flagged off the programme. Describing the initiative, Uco Vegter said,This is a unique programme we have created to support and promote our national sport. While we are the major partner to the Hero Honda FIH World Cup,this initiative is flagged off to engage more and more citizens to our national sports,and also give them an opportunity to see the matches.
The official fan wall is also available on the website,www.passthejosh.com . Balbir Singh Senior,meanwhile said,Indian Hockey has gone down over the years. The game got step-motherly treatment at the hands of hockey administrators. The administrators of hockey had miserably failed in marketing the game. There are no sponsors as well,” he added.
Seeking financial support for the Indian hockey players,Balbir exuded confidence that the profile of the game will rise again in the country. “I am confident that hockey will regain its lost glory in the coming days,” he said.
