Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt,musician
This was the year that music died. The year started with the demise of the golden voice of India,Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. One of my closest friends,Sultan Khan left me,as did Jagjit Singh and Bhupen Hazarika. As the year ends,I also look back with hope at an amazing voice I heard. Ali Azmat from Jaipur, who also won Sa Re Ga Ma Lil Champs this year, touches notes that are unthinkable of being sung by the Ustads too.

For me,the India Art summit of 2011 was very memorable and we are all looking forward to the next one in 2012 as well.
I also enjoyed the retrospectives of SH Raza and Gulam Mohammed Sheikh which were both, according to me,spectacular.
Atul Dodiya,artist
Three things come to mind about this year. The first, and the lowest, point is the loss of MF Hussain. The second important event was London-based artist,Anish Kapoor’s exhibition in Mumbai and Delhi. He’s the most important living sculptor in the world. Thirdly,we should also be proud of the fact that, for the first time, there was an Indian pavilion in the Venice Biennale. Although Indian artists have been a part of the pavilion, there was no Indian pavilion before.
Shubha mudgal,musician
The establishment of the online encyclopedia of Indian music,www.sangeetkosh.net,was an encouraging initiative. Of course,I will also remember this year for the many gurus who passed away. Dr Ashok Ranade and a maestro like Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, who had inspired us,left us this year.
