Heroin worth Rs 115 cr seized

The Border Security Force personnel seized 23 kg heroin that was being brought into India by Pakistani smugglers in two separate incidents. The international market price of the total consignment is said to be nearly Rs 115 crore.

On the intervening night of Friday and Saturday,BSF recovered 13 kg heroin from near Border out post Pallopati in Ferozepur sector. According to BSF officials,three suspected persons came to the international border and one of them carrying the bag approached towards the fencing,following which the BSF personnel challenged him and fired three Para Bombs to illuminate the area. Simultaneously,the BSF personnel fired at the intruders. The smugglers,however,managed to escape but left behind 13 packets of heroin weighing 13 kg.

In another incident,the BSF recovered 10 kg heroin from area falling under Ghoga Border out post in Amritsar sector. BSF personnel spotted the Pakistani smugglers who were trying to push the heroin to Indian side through a pipe and opened fire. The smugglers,however,managed to escape.

In little over a month in 2012,the BSF has seized nearly 54 kg heroin from the border areas. The value of the total seizure in international market is said to be Rs 270 crore. Besides heroin,the BSF also seized over Rs 9 lakh in fake currency,seven pistols,one pump action gun,three pistol magazines and 44 rounds of ammunition this year.
