(File)Mohali will focus on healthcare and public hospitals in the coming days, with officials estimating that nearly Rs 76 crore would be needed to spruce up health facilities in the district.
Mohali Deputy Commissioner (DC) Aashika Jain on Tuesday said that the state has already proposed more than 20 new Aam Aadmi Clinics to people of the district.
This will help Mohali enhance the total number of functional clinics to 34.
The Aam Aadmi Clinics offer 41 health packages, with nearly 100 clinical tests, absolutely free of cost to people. According to Jain, these clinics are acting as a cornerstone to revamp of the healthcare system in Punjab.
She added that government is focusing on a special project for strengthening of all district healthcare, subdivision and secondary healthcare institutions in the state and a major facelift will be given to hospitals.
Dr Vandana Sharma, director of administration services of Indus Group of Hospitals, has prepared a Gap Analysis Report of government hospitals — sub-divisional hospital Dera Bassi, community health centre, Lalru and community health centre, Dhakoli.
Last month, top functionaries of the health department held a meeting with deputy commissioners and civil surgeons and sought reports on gaps in infrastructure at healthcare facilities.
According to compilation of requirements sent by the civil surgeon , the state health department requires over Rs 76 crore to upgrade infrastructure in district hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals and community health centers across Mohali.
Sub-division Mohali sought Rs 35.8 crore, sub-division Kharar sought Rs 17.21 crore and sub-division Dera Bassi sought Rs 23 cr.
The requirements include procurement of equipment, civil and electrical works, replacement of old and unsafe buildings, Rain water harvesting, Solar panels,Landscaping and renovation of the hospitals.
The government has also launched a special recruitment drive would be carried out to fill the 363 vacant posts of medical officers (specialist) and 470 posts of medical officer (general) at these hospitals across the state.
Deputy Commissioner Jain said that In a major health-infrastructure boost for the district, the Punjab government has announced a the state-of-the-art “Punjab Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences” in the district. The super-specialty hospital will be a dedicated centre of excellence for the diagnosis and management of liver and biliary diseases, and to provide advanced training and research in the field of hepato-biliary sciences.
