Taking note of the serious accusations leveled by a convict, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued notices to Ashok Kumar Sheoran, suspended chief of the disbanded STF. The convict has accused Sheoran of attempting to kill him.

Pardeep Jamawari, the petitioner, presently confined in Central Jail,Hisar, has alleged that Sheoran and former SSP,Hisar,A S Chawla, had prepared a list of youth of the district who were to be eliminated in fake encounters. Notices have also been issued to Chawla and Director General of Police (DGP),Haryana.

Demanding a CBI probe, the petitioner has alleged he has been involved in false, frivolous and fictitious cases to ruin his career at the behest of Chawla and Sheoran. Pardeep has also sought directions for registration of FIR against the duo and other police officers for involving him in “false and frivolous” cases.

Claiming that he was arrested by the Haryana Police to extort money,Pardeep alleged that the Haryana Police officials have been resorting to third degree methods to obtain their signatures/thumb impressions on blank papers.

Raising apprehension that he (Pardeep) will be killed in a fake encounter, the petitioner alleged that Chawla on June 22,2006,had visited Hisar jail at about 5.30 pm and threatened them to book them in fake cases.

There are at least 42 criminal cases registered against the petitioner. Pardeep, however, claims to have been acquitted in 40 cases. He has alleged that the false cases are being registered against him and other youths in Haryana by the police extort money from them.
