The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday dismissed a petition filed by former Punjab DGP S S Virk, seeking quashing of an FIR registered against him by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on charges of disproportionate assets.
Holding that the petition cannot be entertained at this stage, when the chargesheet has been filed,Justice Permod Kohli dismissed Virks petition filed. The high court, however, has given Virk the liberty to contend his case before the trial court and prove his innocence.
Contending on Virks behalf,Advocate Sanjiv Bansal alleged political vendetta and malafide against the present government and senior leaders, including the chief minister and deputy chief minister.
Bansal also sought directions to the central government to frame guidelines so that the members of All India Service were not compelled to become tools in the hands of the political bosses and face their wrath due to displeasure earned on account of reluctance or refusal to sacrifice administrative propriety before political expediency.
