HC attaches 52 bank accounts of Mohali builder, directs SSP to interrogate him
Bajwa’s legal counsel presented a list of immovable assets, including nine vehicles and Rs 10 lakh in cash. However, details of the amounts held in his 52 bank accounts were not provided
Justice Moudgil criticised Bajwa for withholding information and warned that his continued non-compliance could result in contempt of court proceedings.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered the attachment of 52 bank accounts belonging to Mohali realtor Jarnail Singh Bajwa and his companies—Bajwa Developers Limited and Bajwa Land Developers and Promoters Private Limited—after he failed to provide the necessary information despite specific instructions.
The court, presided by Justice Sandeep Moudgil, directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Mohali, to interrogate Bajwa, who is currently in judicial custody. The court ordered that any additional details of Bajwa’s assets uncovered during the interrogation must be submitted to the court via affidavit.
The High Court’s order came during the hearing of a petition filed by Kuldeepak Mittal, who is seeking the trial court to conclude a complaint filed against Bajwa within three months. The complaint relates to a Rs 2.5 crore fraud and cheating case from 2012.
The court highlighted the need for a speedy trial, stating that while the right to a fair trial is essential, so is the right to a timely resolution. Justice Moudgil emphasised that Bajwa’s fraudulent activities had caused significant financial losses to hundreds of homebuyers.
Bajwa’s legal counsel presented a list of immovable assets, including nine vehicles and Rs 10 lakh in cash. However, details of the amounts held in his 52 bank accounts were not provided.
The court was informed that Bajwa had offered a Rs 50 lakh settlement, but it was noted that the bank account from which the amount was drawn had not been disclosed in the list of accounts.
Justice Moudgil criticised Bajwa for withholding information and warned that his continued non-compliance could result in contempt of court proceedings.
The High Court has directed the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mohali, to ensure the immediate attachment of the bank accounts and cautioned Bajwa against any attempts to withdraw funds.
