The Punjab and Haryana High Court has accepted the plea of a court employee that a junior could not be entitled to equal pay as his senior even though they were in the same grade. Rajan Nanda,a special secretary in the High Court, stated that he was working as a senior scale stenographer since August 28,1990 and was promoted as judgment writer and then reader on November 8,2000. In October 2000,the court accepted the representation of a judgment writer for stepping up of the pay of an employee to make it at par with Ram Chand, his junior. Later, three judgment writers made similar representation and their scales were also stepped up equal to Ram Chand. Nanda then made requests for withdrawal of stepping up of pay of private respondents and also sought an inquiry into the circumstances in which salaries of these respondents were increased. When the request of Nanda was kept pending,he moved a petition before High Court.
