Hat-trick title for WAC

Champions Western Air Command defeated South Western Air Command via sudden death 4-1,after the match ended in a 3-3 draw,to win the Air Force Hockey Championship held at Sector 42 Sports Complex,Sector 42,on Sunday. This is the third title in succession for Western Air Command.

It was SWAC who opened the account through M Kanaujia in the 17th minute from a penalty stroke. LAC Brar restored parity for the team in the 21st minute through a field goal. Ten minutes later Sgt Prabhakaran put WAC in the lead. However,M Kanaujia scored his second goal of the match in the 59th minute to make it 2-2. Cpl Sukhwinder scored for WAC but Sgt Manish netted a superb field goal to keep SWAC in the title hunt.

Even the extra time given to both the teams could not yield any result and the match was then decided through tie-breaker. Prabhakar,Lac Ramarajan,Lac Kulbir and WO Satbir converted the penalties for WAC while only Sanwar Ali could convert the penalty for SWAC.

Flag Officer Ajith,JWO N K Sahoo,K Kujur,Cpl Kuldeep,AC Manish ,Lac SS Sharma,Lac Harish ,Lac Sameer ,Nadeem,Ramrajan,Cpl Arun,Lac Minhas,M Singh,Billu,Cpl Devpoora,MK Singh,Lac V K Mishra got selected for Air Force team. Meanwhile,Lac Ramaraju of WAC was adjudged the player of the tournament for his brilliant performances.
