In a move to cut the losses that it has been suffering at some of its resorts and restaurants that are plagued by low occupancy, the Haryana Tourism Corporation has ordered major reduction of tariff. At the same time,it has either maintained or hiked the tariff at some resorts – mostly in the National Capital Region (NCR) and on the outskirts of Chandigarh – where it has been making profit.
Prominent among the resorts where tariff has been reduced is Raj Hans Complex of Surajkund,Faridabad. In a bid to invite more tourists, the charges for the suites at the complex have been reduced from Rs 16,000 to Rs 14,500 per day whereas it will charge Rs 5,500 instead of Rs 7,000 for its luxury suites. It would also offer free bottled water, fruit basket and breakfast on the house.
Apart from this, most other resorts and complexes in NCR have either maintained the tariff or have started charging more.
The J Babbler complex,Dharuhera,Gurgaon, would now charge Rs 3,000 instead of Rs 1,900 for deluxe suite, while the regular room is now costly by Rs 200 and has been fixed at Rs 1,500. The charges for Sandpiper complex have been revised and is same as J Babbler. For the Badkhal Lake complex, the guests would have to pay Rs 6,000 inssstead of Rs 5,500 for the suite even as the regular rooms rentals have remained unaffected at Rs 1,999. Tariff for Magpie, another complex situated in Faridabad has remained unchanged.
Similarly, the Red Bishop in Panchkula will now charge Rs 3,500 for deluxe suite (up by Rs 500) and Rs 2,200 for its regular rooms (earlier Rs 1,999). A suite at Kingfisher (Ambala) will set back the guests by Rs 3,100 (up by Rs 500). However, charges for the prestigious Yadvindra Gardens,Pinjore have remained unchanged.
Meanwhile, the corporation has hiked by 5 to 10 per cent the rates of its convention halls, banquets and other facilities.
Despite sharp increase in maintenance cost and wages,we had to act with restraint when it came to revising the tariff as we are increasingly facing stiff competition from private investors, said a senior officer.
