Happy Feet

Come weekends and the Sector 17 plaza is choc-a-bloc. It’s also the perfect place for a flash mob. A relatively old trend internationally, flash mobs are now increasingly being organised in cities across India. For the uninitiated,a flash mob is essentially a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual and seemingly pointless act for a brief time, then disperse.

However,Friday’s flash mob witnessed at the plaza was put together by the dance academy,Dance World-17 with the idea of “spreading happiness through dance”. As busy shoppers made their way around, over 200 boys and girls began dancing to the tunes of popular numbers. The performance began with a girl dancing to the tune of Shakira’s Waka Waka. The five-minute-long dance routine managed to bring Sector 17 to a standstill, leaving some shoppers surprised while some joining in as the music picked up pace. “We feel inculcating dance as a hobby can be a good solution to keep stress levels under control. With this message in mind we organised this event for the first time by involving large numbers. We hope to surprise Chandigarhians in the future too,” quipped Rajiv Garg,Director,Dance World. The dance academy offers training in dance forms like Salsa,Hip-Hop,Bhangra, Rumba,Samba,Tango and so on.
