Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday announced that Hansi will become the 23rd district of the state. Addressing a rally in Hansi, the Chief Minister said the official notification would be issued within a week, after which Hansi would formally function as a district from the revenue administration perspective.

During the rally, the Chief Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of three development projects worth Rs 77.30 crore. He said the decision to elevate Hansi to district status marks a major administrative milestone and reflects the government’s commitment to decentralised and region-focused governance.

Recalling Hansi’s historical and cultural significance, the Chief Minister described the town as a land of valour and sacrifice, noting its role in the First War of Independence in 1857. He said Hansi, earlier known as Asi and Asigarh, also served as the capital of the Satluj province during the reign of Emperor Harsha.

Highlighting development achievements, Saini said projects worth Rs 1,008 crore have been implemented in the Hansi Assembly constituency over the past 11 years, compared to Rs 253 crore during the Congress regime. He reiterated that the state government would leave no stone unturned in ensuring the region’s overall development.

The Chief Minister said that out of the 217 promises made in the Sankalp Patra, 54 have been fulfilled within one year, while work on the remaining commitments is underway. He added that the government is working at a significantly faster pace to ensure inclusive growth and social welfare.

Listing key welfare initiatives, Saini said over seven lakh women have benefited under the Deendayal Lado Lakshmi Yojana, receiving Rs 258 crore in financial assistance. He added that LPG cylinders are being provided at Rs 500 per month to around 14.7 lakh poor families. Emphasising support to farmers, he said all crops are being procured at Minimum Support Price (MSP), with Rs 1.64 lakh crore credited directly to the accounts of nearly 12 lakh farmers. Over the past 11 years, farmers have also received Rs 15,448 crore as compensation under crop damage relief and the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.

Saini also highlighted reforms such as the abolition of the British-era Abiana, digital and paperless land registration, enhanced social security pensions, expanded reservation benefits, housing for the poor under various schemes, and free healthcare under the Ayushman Bharat–Chirayu Scheme, which has provided treatment worth over Rs 4,126 crore to more than 25 lakh beneficiaries.

Announcing a fresh push to infrastructure and civic amenities, the Chief Minister said the 50-bed hospital in Hansi will be upgraded to a 100-bed facility and a special grant of Rs 5 crore has been sanctioned for local development. He also announced projects related to drainage, water treatment, irrigation, road construction, power infrastructure, sports facilities and police housing to strengthen urban and rural services in the region.

On Opposition’s criticism, the Chief Minister rejected Congress allegations related to electoral processes, terming them misleading and politically motivated. He said Haryana is progressing steadily under clear policy direction and strong leadership.

Welcoming the announcement, Cabinet minister Ranbir Gangwa and local MLA Vinod Bhayana described the elevation of Hansi to district status as a historic decision that would accelerate development. State BJP leaders and several legislators also addressed the rally, hailing the government’s development initiatives and administrative reforms.
