One more student of Bhavan Vidyalaya,Sector 27,tested positive for swine flu on Saturday. This is the second case from the school in two days and the fifth case overall.
The Class XII (commerce section) student is a resident of Panchkula,Sector 17. His family has been quarantined at their residence.
With this,the number of positive cases in the city has risen to 26.
On Friday,a student of Class VII B had tested positive,after which the school on Saturday decided to suspend the class for one week.
Earlier,Class X B was suspended after three students from the class tested positive. The class will remain suspended till Wednesday.
Health authorities say the decision to suspend Class XII hasnt been taken and that the situation will be examined for the next two days.
We visited the school today and briefed the authorities about the steps they need to take to curtail the spread of the virus, H C Gera,Swine Flu Nodal Officer,said. Parents also need to be equally vigilant. In case of flu-like symptoms,they should not to send the child to school or tuitions.
After the meeting today,provisions to wash hands were made at 15 more places in the school. The Health department has given education and awareness material on H1N1 to the school and asked teachers to talk about swine flu in every class.
The school has been asked to increase the level of cleanliness. All benches,floors and equipment in the school are to be kept clean,and dos and donts of swine flu are to be displayed, Gera said.
One more suspected case from Mohali
Another student of Lawrence School,Mohali,meanwhile,complained of swine flu symptoms on Saturday. The samples have been taken and the test report will come on Sunday.
