‘Guards died fighting thieves’

The chargesheet holds Rinku Verma alias Raju,Devi Shanker Verma,Ricky Sharma and Shamshad alias Lambu responsible for the murder of 60-year-old Gurdial Singh and 50-year-old Sucha Singh. All the accused are in judicial custody at present.

The mutilated bodies of Gurdial Singh and Sucha Singh had been found near the bridge at the new link road between Hallo Majra and Panchkula on May 1. As per the chargesheet,Gurdial Singh and Sucha Singh were on night duty in their respective godowns. The four accused came to steal water pipes from the forest area around 11.30 pm on April 30.

The four had a rehri and a spade with them. The two security guards raised an alarm after which they fled,leaving their rehri and spade behind. About an hour-and-a-half later,the four returned to the site. The guards again spotted them and gave them chase till the accused entered the thickets.

There,one of them hit Gurdial with a stone. A scuffle ensued during which Gurdial and Sucha were attacked with blunt weapons and bludgeoned to death. Later,their bodies were thrown near the canal,reads the chargesheet.

The Central Forensic Science Laboratory report of the blood samples that were collected from the spot is still awaited and the police will file a supplementary chargesheet once the report is received.

The murder had taken place just three days after Gurdial and Sucha had helped the police arrest two water pipe thieves in the forest area near Daria village.

Even before that,the two had helped the police nab a thief who was stealing electricity wires in the village.

As per the chargesheet,the two were battered with stones and bricks in the forest area near the road following which the bodies were dragged to the bridge by the accused to dispose them off. While the accused threw the body of Sucha Singh in the sullied water of the nullah,the body of Gurdial Singh was abandoned on the road above the nullah.
