Get set for a treat as restaurants roll out Commonwealth-themed food festivals
While the battle for gold,silver and bronze is being fought on the tracks and in the pools of Delhi,Chandigarh is celebrating the ongoing Commonwealth Games in a very different way by munching their way through the cuisine of the participating countries. Taj Chandigarh,for instance,is hosting a food festival with dishes from seven Commonwealth countries. The week-long festival kicked off with British and Malaysian fare on October 6 while Pakistani delicacies occupied centre stage on Friday. The next few days will be dedicated to food from Australia,Sri Lanka,South Africa and Papua New Guinea, says Sandeep Makroo,sales manager,Taj Chandigarh. Available only for dinner,the buffet will be available at Cafe 17 and is priced at Rs 1,200 plus taxes.
The Western Court in Sector 43 is paying tribute to the CWG by offering a culinary tour of various Indian states in a festival called Bharat Ke Rang from October 10. Its our ode to the Games and the spirit of the India, says the General Manager about the festival.
Cafe Oz is planning to pep things up by bringing,not only the food of Australia,but also players from the country,while the new restaurant The Big Ben with its Peddlers Pub and range of combo meals is looking to highlight British cuisine. This would be a good time to try their Chicken Wellington or Shepherds Pie.
Chandigarh Institute of Hotel Management (CIHM),in keeping with the spirit of the Games,is hosting a Tawa and Tandoor Festival in association with the Alumni Association of Chandigarh Institute of Hotel Management. The three-day,dinner-only festival started on Friday on the institute lawns and offers a host of special dishes made live at the venue. We wanted to generate a buzz about the Games, says TK Razdan,principal,CIHM.
The partnership with the alumni of the institute,led by well-known city hotelier Rajeev Kakkar,was formed keeping in mind the current batch of students who would soon enter the job arena and could pick up tips from former students. On offer at the festival will be specialities made on the tava and tandoor. Apart from the two shorbas,we will have starters like Achari Paneer Tikka,Basil Paneer Tikka,Gosht Taka Tak and Murg Khurchan, says Kakkar. The dinner buffet is priced at Rs 375 (inclusive of taxes).
