Jaspreet Singh had also named an HoD,Dr N K Goel, who was booked for abatement to suicide A Lower court on Thursday allowed the application moved by the prosecution to summon two students in connection with the suicide case of a student of Government Medical College and Hospital,Sector 32 (GMCH-32). The court of additional district and sessions judge Raj Rahul Garg issued summons for producing two fellow students of the deceased. The case will be next heard on February 10. It may be recalled that two years after Jaspreet Singh,a third semester student of MBBS at GMCH,committed suicide, his father had deposed before the court recently. During the trial that began on January 14,Jaspreets father,Charan Singh, who identified the handwritten suicide note of his son, moved an application in the court to issue summons to two fellow classmates Deepak and Ajay, who had been named in the suicide note. Jaspreet had named one doctor,Dr N K Goel, head of the Department of Community Medicine, and two fellow students in his suicide note. The suicide note stated they used to ridicule him over his caste. Later, the names of the classmates were dropped after the inquiry board exonerated them of the charges. The court had framed charges against the doctor on July 24 last year under Section 306 of the IPC and Section 3(2)(VII) of the SC/ ST Act. The police had submitted a challan against Goel in the case on September 11,2009. The challan was filed based on an inquiry report submitted by a GMCH committee and the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) report of the suicide note and a re-evaluation of the examination paper. Professor Goel and the two students of GMCH-32 were booked for abetting suicide after the body of Jaspreet was found hanging in the toilet of the library on the fifth floor of B-block of the hospital.
