Manasvi Mamgai, winner of this years Miss India World title, grew up in Chandigarh
The last time Manasvi Mamgai featured on our pages in October 2006,she was a lanky teenager two days away from turning 19. This Sunday, the model who has previously won LOreal Elite Look of the Year contest, was crowned Pantaloons Miss India World 2010,with her smiling face splashed across national dailies.
Mamgai, now 22,has had a successful run both on the ramp and off it. She has been a regular face at all the fashion weeks, having debuted earlier with Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week. She had bagged the title of Miss Tourism International in Malaysia in 2008. She has also featured in fashion spreads in glossy magazines and television ads. I have always been a fashion junkie and grew up aspiring to be a model, Mamgai had mentioned in earlier interviews.
Mamgai grew up in Chandigarh before shifting base to Delhi and her win brings fond memories among those who knew her. A product of Hansraj Public School, where she studied from kindergarten to Class X,there is an obvious sense of pride. We are delighted that Mamgai romped home with the crown, says Jaya Bhardwaj, the school principal. Incidentally,Mamgais mother also taught at Hansraj.
Anupama Sharma, one of her class teachers, has fond memories. I remember her distinctly,a responsible, thin and very tall compared to her classmates. She was a very inquisitive child, who was very good at singing and dancing. I remember her winning many competitions, she says.
Mamgai later shifted to Carmel Convent in Sector 9,Chandigarh,following which she signed up at the Elite School of Modelling in Delhi. Mamgai comes home to Chandigarh often for various fashion events, but when she comes this time, homecoming will be surely sweet.
