From next year onwards,PEC University of Technology will offer a five-year integrated engineering and management programme.
The programme BEMBA recently received in-principle approval from the institutes Board of Governors. The institute was planning to introduce the programme for a couple of years.
The proposal to introduce a dual degree integrated programme offering MBA along with BE was given a nod in the recently held meeting of the Board of Governors, a member of the Board said. It will be a self-financed course. The facultys expenditure will come from the fees and the infrastructure will be provided by the Government of India through UT Administration.
The programme is being introduced,as many students do MBA after completing their BE. The programme will be offered from the 2011-12 academic session.
According to an official,the programme aims at reducing the stress level among students,who start preparing for MBA entrance examinations during their final semesters and fail to concentrate on their engineering studies.
At present,the institute is working on the fee structure. An official said the fees is likely to be around Rs 50,000 per semester one semester would be of six months.
Initially,BEMBA will have 30 seats. Officials said the programme would be offered along with five of the 10 engineering courses at PEC. At present,PEC offers BE in aeronautical,applied science,civil,CSE,electrical,E and EC,IT,mechanical,metallurgy and production.
Like other engineering courses,admissions to BEMBA would be done on the basis of All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) rank.
One of the oldest and most prestigious engineering institutes in the region,PEC was originally established as Mugalpura Engineering College in Lahore in 1921.
