The Crime Branch of the Chandigarh Police today arrested four persons with a large number of weapons who were allegedly planning to commit dacoities in Chandigarh. The five arrested include Bhupinder Kumar alias Juga,Suresh Kumar alias Babu,Parminder Singh alias Soni,Anil Kumar and Alok Kumar.
According to DSP Satbir Singh of the Crime Branch,the five were sitting in an autorickshaw (PB65-T-3242) parked in front of the gate of Forest Nursery on the backside road of Panjab University when the police apprehended them.
The police recovered deadly weapons from their possession and established that they were planning to commit dacoity at a chemist shop in the nearby area.
After seeing the police party,all the above mentioned persons came out of the vehicle and tried to flee from the spot. While four of them were arrested from the spot,fifth accused Alok Kumar managed to give the slip to the police.
Their search was conducted and the police recovered two country-made pistols alongwith two live cartridges from the possession of Bhupinder Singh and Parminder Singh. Two Kamanidar knifes were recovered from the possession of Suresh Kumar and Anil Kumar. The autorickshaw has also been sequested. All the above mentioned accused were arrested under sections 399,402 of the IPC and 25/54/59 of Arms Act.
During the course of investigation,the police found that accused Bhupinder has earlier been arrested in ten cases in Patiala. As per his criminal background,he has three cases of attempt to murder registered against him and also seven theft cases. The police also found that the other accused Parminder Singh alias Soni was arrested in rape case in April 2010 in the Sector-36 police station .
Describing their modus operandi,the police said that these accused came into contact with each other through a common friend and during their further interrogation,they confessed of having committed a robbery near Khuda Lahora Bridge on November 4 in which they robbed one Ankush Rattans two mobile phones and cash. In this regard a case was also registered in police station Sector 11.
Further,they have also confessed of committing robberies in Mohali . Their modus-operandi was that one of them will pick up a passenger either from Bus Stand in Sector 17 or Bus Stand Sector 43 or from different bus stops and then inform the other members who would then waylay the autorickshaw at secluded place and rob the passenger. The accused were produced in the court today and were taken to police custody.
