With its renovated interiors and newly introduced Indian cuisine Sofrito hopes to draw in more crowd
Situated in the bustling banking zone of Sector 9,Sofrito has been popular since its launch in July this year. While its Mediterranean menu charmed the diners,the stark interiors,raw ceiling and open kitchen was also appreciated. However,despite its success the management decided to go for a makeover sooner than expected. We wanted to change the look according to the feedback. Everyone loved the food,but some people found the interiors too casual and cafeteria like, says owner Punit Walia.
So the restaurant opened in its new avatar a couple of days back. The changes are certainly for the better,with the interiors exuding warmth and giving the impression of a fine-dining place. The open kitchen is still in the spotlight,but the renovated bar has a comfortable lounge area that has been added next to it. We wanted it to represent aromatic ingredients,just like what Sofrito means in Spanish, says Walia,who roped in interior designer Anu Bains to make the alterations.
The menu has also undergoneminor changes. Though Mediterranean food got a thumbs up,the diners wanted more choice, says the restauranteur,who now provides Indian cuisine as well.
Apart from the usual dal,paneer and butter chicken,there are some interesting dishes like Dahi Ke Kebab (Rs 195) and Rajma Galouti (Rs 225). The latter is a Lucknowi delicacy that is accompanied with a Ulte Tawe Ka Parantha. The main course also has South Indian dishes like Butter Garlic Prawns (Rs 495) and Fish Gassi (Rs 595).
The choice available might add to the restaurants popularity,but a visit to Sofrito is incomplete without gorging on the Mediterranean fare dig into Spanish Tapas,Catalonian Paellas,Italian Risotto,French Bouillabaisse,Ratatouille or the Mezze platters from the Middle East.
