The soft rays of the sun streamed through a cheerful and welcoming setting,as more than 200 children from four of Chandigarh’s slums waited for their year-end bag of surprise goodies at the terrace of Strawberry Fields World School,Sector 26. Sugar,nutritious eats,track suits and sweaters formed part of the gift hamper that was personally handed over to them by Jean Rodrigues. The Durga Das Foundation which runs night schools in the labour colonies of Bapu Dham,Indira Colony,Hallomajra and Palsora,organises regular donation drives,philanthropic initiatives and community sharing sessions to build awareness about not just being magnanimous,but to make it a point to think about the lesser privileged. “Giving away a few things may not make a huge difference to most household budgets,but it could be life-saving for those who are denied the basics in life,” said Atul Khanna,Director of the Foundation.
