ACCORDING to a recent study by NASSCOM and Ernst & Young,India’s animation industry is expected to hit $ 1 billion by 2012 aided by increased outsourcing and a growing domestic market. The Indian animation market,estimated at $494 million in 2008,is seen growing at a compounded annual growth rate of 22 percent till 2012. The gaming industry was estimated at $167 million in 2008 and is seen growing at a compounded rate of 49 percent yearly to hit $830 million by 2012,the report added. Keeping up with stats,a new centre,‘Animation Live’ was inaugurated by Sanjay Kumar,IAS,Finance Secretary,Chandigarh. Among those present on the occasion were Satish Venugopal,Country Manager,Corel India and Ankur Kapoor,CEO and President of Animation Live. Venugopal highlighted the increasing influence of animation in our daily lives. “This could be through television commercials,movies or gaming. We wish Animation Live a huge success at this new facility and assure that Corel India and Animation Live will together work towards building better animation professionals.” He also congratulated Animation Live on being one of the Top 3 Corel Authorised Training Centre in India.
