Five held for immoral trafficking

Rajni,in her late 20s,was allegedly running a prostitution racket by procuring young women on the pretext of performing in an orchestra group and forced them into immoral trafficking by luring them with quick money,Investigating Officer Lakhbeer Singh told Newsline here today.

The other arrested persons have been identified as Sunita,in her early 20s,and Gurpreet Kaur,in her teens,both from Amritsar,Sandeep Singh alias Shunti,20,of Balongi,and Himmat Kumar alias Bobby,in his early 20s,of Mundi Kharar.

The IO said that on getting a tip-off,a police team,headed by DSP Raj Balwinder Singh Mrar and comprising two women cops,raided the rented accommodation of Rajni in Azad Nagar. While the pimp,who is a mother of four minor children from two marriages,was arrested from the drawing room,while Sunita and Gurpreet were found in compromising conditions with Himmat and Sandeep,respectively,in separate rooms,he said. Rajni’s both husbands have died.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Rajni used to charge anywhere between Rs 500 to Rs 2,000 from clients,depending upon their financial position,and after keeping her commission up to 50 per cent,she used to pass on the remaining amount to the women offered to customers,the IO divulged.

Booked under Sections 3,4 and 5 of the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act,1956,all the five accused were produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate (Class I) Shikha Bansal this evening who remanded them to 14-day judicial custody.
