“Dr Parmar was a visionary who had laid solid foundation of modern Himachal Pradesh at a time when the resources with the state government were meagre. He had given new dimensions to apple cultivation in the higher reaches of the state to strengthen rural economy, which is yielding the desired outcome today,” said the CM.

Earlier,Vidhan Sabha Speaker Tulsi Ram recalled Dr Parmar’s contributions to the tribal areas. “Dr Parmar had protected the interests of the tribal people of the state by banning purchase of land by non-tribal people. Had the step not been taken, the tribal areas could have been grabbed by the financially mighty people from outside,” he said.

Cabinet ministers,MLAs,former MLAs,Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Kaul Singh Thakur and Dr Parmar’s family members, including daughters-in-law Pam Parmar and Satya Parmar, and grandson Shiv Parmar, were also present.

The Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee also held a ceremony to pay tributes to the leader at the party headquarters in Shimla, which was attended by a large number of party members.
