With the PU elections approaching, most of the college authorities finally allowed student organisations to officially start with classroom campaigning,on Friday, after the the nominations were filed.

The college parties had, however, already started classroom campaigning on August 29 without permission by college authorities.

On Friday,as the nominations were filed, the Dean of Government College,Sector 11 allowed the candidates to start with class campaigning.

Ramneek Sharma,Dean of the college said,“Now the students are free to campaign in their own way as just three days are left for the elections. They should get ample time to campaign as per their wishes.”

Other colleges including DAV,SD and SGGS have not yet allowed students to campaign in classrooms fearing clashes.

SOPU representative,Shivraj Singh Virk said,“Technically,we are left with only one day,as August 31 will be gone while deciding nominations and announcing panels. The authorities should have allowed us by now to start class campaigning.”

“Nominations have already been filed today and students hardly turn up on the weekends. When are the authorities going to allow class campaigning. We are not even allowed to take out rallies, which is why the election fever in the college, this year,is very low comparatively,” added Gurpreet Singh,NSUI president at SGGS College Sector 26.
