This years edition of Goonj the annual techno-literary-cultural festival of the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) will be themed around eco-conservation. Ongoing contests such as Rags to Riches and JunkMania have made students turn waste papers,discarded clothes and other junk materials into interesting artwork.
The fest will also see participation from NGO Green Yatra,among others,to spread awareness about the green cause. The endeavour is to make the fest worthwhile and comprehensive replete with fun,brainstorming,creativity and social cause, said Ayush Sharma,member of the organising committee,as he unveiled the Goonj mascot an elephant with tagline Rhythm of the Wild.
To be held on February 4 and 5 on the UIET campus,the fest will provide a platform for music lovers with events such as Metamorphism,where rock bands would be pitted against each other. Besides,celebrated rock band,Raeth,and singer Kamal Heer will showcase their talent. The fest will also roll out Silk Route,a fashion show,and several literary and technical events such as Youth Congress,Jan Lokpal,Robo Rally and web development. The dance competition,Razzmatazz,and the short skit event,Curtain Call,are expected to get a good response along with Directors Cut,a short film and documentary competition,wherein contestants can mail their videos to utechnos.cultural@gmail.com on the first day of the fest, chips in Shivam Chauhan,a third-year student if UIET.
Goonj will also pack in usual stuff such as face painting,T-shirt painting and street painting. There will also be Pixetra an image manipulation contest where participants will be given five images to create artwork, said Manak Malik,one of the organisers.
