A day before he returns to United Kingdom, centenarian marathon runner Fauja Singh on Monday appeared on the poll scene of Punjab in support of People’s Party of Punjab (PPP).

Fauja Singh attended a rally at village Kukranwala that falls in Raja Sansi constituency, from where PPP candidate Amanpreet Singh Chhina,a permanent resident of UK is in fray.

Expressing concern over the “deteriorating law and order situation” and referring to the incidents of “snatchings”,Fauja Singh said that he was impressed with the ideology of PPP. He said that he deeply felt that people should choose PPP to improve the state-of-affairs in Punjab.

Calling PPP the first party that gave a call for “safeguarding the interests of the state”,he said the god had given a chance to the people to elect a good government.

Fauja Singh also shared the stage with comedian and PPP leader Bhagwant,Chhina and other party candidates from the adjoining constituencies.

“It is a big motivation for me that a 100-year-old man is coming to bless and support me. Today,my belief got all the more strengthened that I did not make any wrong move in coming from UK to contest polls in Punjab,” Chhina,an Oxford graduate who quit practice as lawyer in UK to test political waters in Punjab, said.
