pseb class xii results n All 15 students from Institute for the Blind secure first division
As the Class XII results of the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) were declared on Thursday, there emerged a number of such students whose inability to see the world around them did not deter them from faring well in the exams.
While all the 15 students from the Institute for the Blind,Sector 26,managed to secure first division, there were few who set examples for many others by securing above 80 per cent marks.
Vikram Goyal, who secured the first position in the institute, scored 81.6 per cent marks, followed by Amod and Poonam, both scoring 81.3 per cent. The third position was bagged by Abhishek Kumar with 80.5 per cent marks.
All these students come from economically weaker sections of society. The fact that they have scored so well despite facing numerous challenges makes us all the more proud, says principal K R Sood.
Many of the students who have joined the institute in the last couple of years come from different cities. They find many difficulties in adjusting to the environment of the city. Also, they face difficulties in learning how to read and write. But their determination has always been their biggest strength, says an official of the institute.
Our students are doing well in their careers. Some of them are currently working as professors in various colleges in and around the city, drawing salaries up to Rs 50,000 per month, says an admission clerk in the institute.
While there are no definite arrangements for preparing for the textbook lessons in Braille in many of the blind institutes in India, the students in this school have been given the facility of a Braille printer which is used to convert regular course books into Braille, says Major General (retd) Rajendra Nath, chairman and senior vice-president of the institute.
Many of these students are specially trained in computer applications. Amrinder Singh,a student of the institute, has been operating the website of the school on his own. He scored 79 per cent in the board examination this year.
