Shailendra Srivastava, the bad cop of Rakht Charitra, about playing villain

The roles were neither lengthy nor meaty, but each one made an impact. Hence, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma will not hesitate to sign Shailendra Srivastava for the third time. After his turn as a good cop in D Company ,Srivastava appeared as the wicked, murderous policeman in Rakht Charitra. “I play inspector Gajapati Rao,who kills Viviek Oberoi’s brother,Sushant Singh,in the police station,” says Srivastava.

In town to visit relatives, this theatre actor made his move to Maximum City 10 years back. “In India’s first science fiction show,Sigma,I was the main villain,” he says, jogging the memory. Thereafter,he worked in serials like Aahat ,CID and Black besides several films in Bhojpuri. He also remained active in theatre, doing shows at the Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai.

But why only thrillers and dark roles? The actor says,it’s for the kick of the role, the performance and the many lives he lives in those couple of moments. “It’s my dream,my prayer,my craft, and I would always choose acting as a career,” he says. Will he be third time lucky with RGV? He hopes so.
