Eight juveniles apprehended for murder of a minor

The victim and the apprehended juveniles had fights on the issue of loitering in the public park, cops said.

As many as eight juveniles were apprehended for stabbing a 15-year-old to death at a public park in Vikas Nagar, Mauli Jagran, Friday night. The victim, identified as Saurav Bhardwaj, 16, was a student of class X.

Police said that the weapons used in crime, knife, “Gandasi”, and wooden sticks were recovered from juveniles. They were all sent to the Juvenile Home Sector 25.

The victim and the apprehended juveniles had fights on the issue of loitering in the public park, cops said. A police officer said, “The apprehended juveniles are from another locality, the victim had raised objection over their presence in the public park near his house. Some of the apprehended juveniles were caught on CCTV cameras installed in the locality. It helped us to identify and nab them.”

A case under sections 302 (Punishment for murder), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC has been registered at the Mauli Jagran police station.

Police said that Jagdish Bhardawaj, father of the victim, reported to police that he had sent his son to buy rice around 8.45pm on Friday night. On asking him again to bring a clay lamp, Saurav reportedly complained to his father that some boys he had enmity with are roaming outside the house to kill him. Bharadwaj told his son that nothing will happen, as he is standing in the gallery and watching him. Police said that when Saurav reached the park he was surrounded by seven to eight boys who stabbed him brutally.

Saurav was rushed to the GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh, where doctors declared him as brought dead. The police located the juveniles on the run and apprehended all the juveniles involved in the crime within 4 hours of reporting of crime.
