The Election Commission of India has given its go ahead to a number of cases,which it had asked to be held back in view of the enforcement of the model code of conduct prior to the Punjab Assembly elections.
The ECI has given its nod to the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU),Ludhiana,to issue an advertisement for filling of vacant posts of various categories,including administrative,scientific and teaching/non-teaching,a State Election Department spokesperson said here today.
The ECI has also given its approval for the recruitment process by Subordinate Service Selection Board (SSSB).
The filling of 529 vacant posts of different categories in the department of Agriculture,which were taken out of the purview of the PPSC and the SSSB,through a written test conducted by the PAU,Ludhiana,have also been approved.
Appointments of 25 ex-servicemen to various posts and one supervisor in Punjab State Ex-Servicemen Corporation on contract basis have also been approved.
Implementation and extension of Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna to the labourers,construction workers and street vendors under local bodies and labour department,has also been allowed.
BJP MP Avinash Rai Khanna has also been allowed by the ECI to distribute cheques for the development works in different villages of his Hoshiarpur constituency out of his discretionary funds.
Khanna,a Congress candidate from Dhuri and the Chairman,Umeed Foundation,an NGO has also been allowed by the ECI to have his own photographs on the vans engaged by the Foundation,the spokesperson said.

The ECI has also given its concurrence to appoint the Chairman of the Board of Governors of Giani Zail Singh College of Engineering and Technology Bathinda.
It also approved to conduct interviews for the recruitment of firemen on contract basis in the office of municipal council,SAS Nagar.
Certain amendments in Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board Act (Punjab Act 28 of 1976) has also been allowed.
The Commission also gave its nod to issue the appointment letters to three veterinary doctors,which could not be given earlier because of the imposition of the Code on December 24 last year.
Meanwhile,the spokesperson said that the ECI has appointed 117 observers for counting of votes purposes.

Chandigarh: The Punjab government has reinstated a Deputy Superintendent of Police,Bhupinder Singh Khatra,in the service with immediate effect. This decision has been taken keeping in view the acquittal of Khatra by a Punjab and Haryana High Court order on January 31,2012.
