EC allows liquor vends allotment

The Election Commission has allowed Haryana to go ahead with the allotment of liquor vends for 2009-10 by inviting bids.

Earlier,the EC had sought a report from the Haryana government on the alleged allotment of vends without its permission after the model code of conduct came into force.

Then,the Excise and Taxation Commissioner,Haryana,made a request for holding auctions. According to the Election Commission guidelines,no fresh auctions of liquor vends can be held without prior permission of the EC till the code of conduct is in force. The auction process was scheduled to be completed by month-end.
