The Deputy Director of PEC University of Technology Dr A M Kalra,who was accused of sexual harassment by an Associate Professor of the varsity,said that he has given a reply to the Chandigarh Police and to the Director,PEC on the allegations leveled against him.
I do not wish to speak on the matter. I have given a reply to the police and to the Director of the university. Let the police decide the truth, he said. When asked the reason for the allegations leveled against him,he said,It is not something new. She (the professor) has done the same in the past too.
When contacted,Dr Manoj Arora,Director PEC refused to comment on the issue. The Chandigarh Police,however,is yet to question the accused.
The professor has accused Kalra of persistent sexual harassment since 2008. She has also accused the former director of the university,Dr Manoj Datta,of inaction on her complaint against Kalra. Dr Kalra is a professor at the Civil Engineering Department and is also the deputy director of the university,while former director Dr Manoj Datta retired in May and now lives in Delhi.
They have been accused of use of criminal force with an intent to outrage a womans modesty,defamation,and use of word,gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman.
The professor,in September 2012,had submitted a complaint with the police. However,an FIR was registered more than a year later on December 5 with the Sector 11 police.
In her FIR,the woman said that Kalra often sent out feelers that he wanted to meet her in her personal chamber for reading her horoscope. When she objected,Kalra allegedly threatened to ruin her career. In February 2013,Kalra even threatened to dismiss her from service,the woman said. She also alleged that Datta told her not to press the complaint,nor approach any authorities.
