Cacti have always been looked down at,but that should not be the case. See the accompanying picture. This is one of the best specimens of cactus. One should not disapprove of cactus because of the myth that the scriptures do not speak highly of them or that the thorns attract negative energy. There are several other species with thorns,including roses,bougainvillea and ber. Moreover,cactus is very hardy. The plant thrives in the deserts and supports innumerable lives.

I am aware that the weather is hot and it is early for planting,but I want to grow guava and chicku in my home garden. I will take care of the plants. Can I do it now?

The answer is no. No authentic source,like Punjab Agricultural University or the government nursery,will give you plants now. Moreover,wait for another month and let the risk of mortality not lie with you. Now,you should prepare the soil and pit — this is done at least one month in advance.

I want to plant mint in my kitchen garden. Which is the most suitable place?

Mint should be planted in partial shade,near a water source,in order to ensure that there is no stagnation of water in the roots.

I have planted tori in my garden. It has climbed up the grape bower. Will it affect the grapevine?

Yes,it will certainly affect the grapevine and cut off the photosynthetic area. It will affect your next year’s crop.

I planted papaya seeds in polythene bags three days back. How long will these take to germinate? Are there any precautions that I should take?

The papaya may take up to 21 days to germinate. Do not lose heart and keep the medium moist. After germination,drench the soil with bavistin solution made by dissolving two gram to a liter of water.
