CHANDIGARH: Drona Walia maintained his impressive form as the talented player claimed two titles in the AITA Talent Series Tennis Tournament held at Jagadhari Club,Civil Lines Road in Jagadhari (Haryana) on Friday. Uttarakhand lad Drona first won the boys’ Under-14 title by beating Neeraj Yashpal of Chandigarh 6-4,6-3 in the final. He then paired with Haryana player Abhimanyu Rozra and defeated the pair of Neeraj Yashpal (Chandigarh) and Jagtar Arora (Haryana) 6-2,6-1 to win the boys’ Under-14 doubles title. Meanwhile,Chandigarh eve Komal Jeet Kaur overcame a spirited Itika Sharma of Rajasthan 6-4,6-7(3),7-5 to claim the girls’ Under-14 title.

Manav Mangal gymnasts shine

PANCHKULA: Gymnasts of Manav Mangal School,Sector 11 made heads turn with their impressive performances in District School Games held at Bhavan Vidayalaya School in Panchkula. They won titles in all the four categories: boys’ Under 14,Under-17 and girls’ Under 14,Under-17. In this tournament,22 gymnasts from the school took part and 19 have been selected for the Haryana State School Games to be held in Ambala in October. Shruti (Under 14) and Diksha (Under-17),both of Manav Mangal,were declared all round best gymnasts. Similarly,Abhinav (U-14) and Nikhil (U-17),of the same school,were adjudged declared all round best gymnasts.

Sports calender modified

CHANDIGARH: Haryana School Education Department has issued modified sports calender of the state for the year 2013-14,according to which events like gymnastics,football and circle kabaddi matches would be held in Ambala from October 3 to 6 while badminton,athletics and lawn tennis matches would be held in Panchkula from October 26 to 29.

Rowing trials tomorrow

CHANDIGARH: The rowing trials to fill sports wing seats for coaching centres,which were scheduled to be held on August 6 at Lake Sports Club in Chandigarh,will now be held on August 4 at Lake Sports Club from 4 pm onwards.

Cricket trials today

MOHALI: The Fatehgarh Sahib District Cricket Association,affiliated to Punjab Cricket Association,will conduct open trials to select its cricket team for the Katoch Shield Trophy,at Mata Gujri College,Fatehgarh Sahib on August 3 at 1:30 pm. The team will then take part in the Punjab Inter District Cricket Tournament for Katoch Shield,to be organised by Punjab Cricket Association,later this month. Football meet from today

CHANDIGARH: The St. John’s Old Boys Association (SJOBA) will organise Sandeep Bangia Memorial Six-a Side Football Tournament,on August 3 and 4 at St John’s High School in Sector 26. A total of six teams are participating in tournament to be played on round robin format. The six participating teams are last year’s defending champions Sharks,Lions,Penguins,Super Stars,Super Eagles and Team Phoenix.
