After over a week, authorities of Government Multi Specialty Hospital,Sector 16,seem to have woken up to the seriousness of the incident where a pregnant woman was allegedly ill-treated by the hospital staff on July 10,and have asked for a re-inquiry in the matter.
Apparently, dissatisfied over the inquiry conducted,Health Services Director Dr Chander Mohan constituted a two-member committee on Wednesday to probe the matter indicating the lapse in the entire incident.
Speaking with the Chandigarh Newsline,Dr Chander Mohan said,The incident will be looked into in totality with an aim to correct the system,in case there are any faults.
Health department officials revealed that there were certain loopholes in the inquiry report submitted earlier, which was conducted by the head of the Gynecology Department. The family members of the victim,24-year-old Lakshmi, had also raised doubts over the credibility of the report as the inquiry was done by the doctor of the same department whose staff was allegedly at fault.
Now the two members,Dr SK Bhalla of the Department of Psychiatry, and Dr G Dewan,Deputy Medical Superintendent of the hospital, will conduct their probe and also give recommendations.
Earlier, the inquiry report was submitted on July 13,and officials claim that authorities kept sitting over it. A clean chit was given to the staff in the matter, and incidentally, all that the department had done was to dismiss the nurse who was working on contract with the hospital.
On the contrary, the victim had claimed that the nurse did help her when she was in pain and also had wheeled her into the operation theatre. Lakshmi also stated that the nurse had un-clamped the umbilical chord of the dead baby immediately after the delivery.
On July 10,Lakshmi,who was carrying a dead baby inside her for three days, was allegedly treated with utter callousness even after the doctors at the hospital were aware of her miscarriage. Instead of terminating her pregnancy, she was asked to come the next day to the OPD ward.
