In a major relief to the residents, an underpass shall be constructed at the Dhakoli railway crossing in Zirakpur.

The Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain and Railway Authorities conducted a joint visit to finalise the design of the project. The DC said that the old railway crossing was a major traffic bottleneck on Kalka-Ambala T-point. The project will also reduce traffic near the Police Station Dhakoli and Civil Hospital Zirakpur.

The DC said that the project would be completed on a 50-50 per cent expenditure share between the railway department and the district administration. Around Rs 8 crore shall be spent on the underpass. “The design has been approved in principle to pave the way for construction,” the DC added.

The DC also took stock of the ongoing project of cleaning of Sukhna Choe that has been undertaken for the first time as an important flood protection work. She said that the Choe, which carries the surplus storm water of Sukhna lake, meets the Ghaggar at Bhankharpur, was in dire need of cleanliness to carry storm water at its full capacity. The project worth Rs one crore is near completion and the deadline has been fixed as June 30, she added.

The deputy commissioner asked the SDM Dera Bassi, Himanshu Gupta, to follow up the Railway underpass project regularly so that it can be kickstarted on time.
