The Chandigarh administration will take a call on switching over to “only cashless mode” at the government offices after December 15 based on the feedback of city residents. The administration had announced that cashless facilities would be provided at all the government offices — RLA, estate office, excise and taxation, and e-sampark centres — by December 10. All the offices would also continue to accept cash. Talking to Chandigarh Newsline, UT Home Secretary Anurag Aggarwal said that all the government offices would provide cashless facilities by December 10, but would continue to accept cash as per instructions of the Centre.
Watch what else is making news:
The administration has launched a campaign for generating awareness among residents for using digital mode for making payments. The banks have been asked to submit their choices of government offices where they want to set up their infrastructure providing cashless facilities.
Federation of Sector Welfare Associations Chandigarh (FOSWAC) chairman Baljinder Singh Bittu claims that the administration cannot switch over to only cashless mode until the Centre passes an order in this regard. “People can’t be forced to make payments in only one mode,” he said.
