Decision on switching over to ‘only cashless mode’ after December 15

“A decision whether to stop accepting cash will be taken after December 15,” said the home secretary. The administration will also take feedback from the residents before taking any decision. “We will switch over only if people are comfortable with cashless mode.”  The administration is already accepting payments through cheque, demand draft and debit/credit card at e-sampark centres. The administration offers a total of 78 government-to-citizen (G2C), government-to-business (G2B), business-to- consumer (B2C) services through its strong network of 16 e-sampark centres, 11 e-sampark kiosks and 14 gram sampark centres spread in different parts of the city.

The administration has launched a campaign for generating awareness among residents for using digital mode for making payments. The banks have been asked to submit their choices of government offices where they want to set up their infrastructure providing cashless facilities.
Federation of Sector Welfare Associations Chandigarh (FOSWAC) chairman Baljinder  Singh Bittu claims that the administration cannot switch over to only cashless mode until the Centre passes an order in this regard. “People can’t be forced to make payments in only one mode,” he said.
