Two men struck at the house of a retired Punjab Civil Services officer in Sector 16 on Friday morning and robbed the occupants of cash and a mobile phone at gunpoint. While nobody sustained any injury in the incident, the robbery in broad daylight has created panic in the locality.
The incident took place around 11 am when only two occupants were present in the house the owner,75-year-old Om Parkash, and his 13-year-old grandson. Om Parkashs wife Sarla,a practising high court lawyer, was in the court. His son and daughter-in-law,too,were at their respective workplaces.
Police said two clean shaven men, aged between 30 and 35,came to Oms house and said they wanted to discuss a case with Sarla. He told them to come in the evening.
They asked me for a glass of water. When I turned towards the kitchen, they took out pistols and asked me to move to the bedroom. The two tied my hands with a tape and sealed my mouth. They opened the almirah and took out Rs 4,900 in cash and a mobile phone. They moved upstairs, where my grandson was sleeping in a room. They locked him in and fled, Om Parkash told the police.
He said the same youths had visited the house at the same time a day before. A team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory has collected fingerprint samples from the spot. Assistant Superintendent of Police Madhur Verma said: We will get the sketches of the accused prepared. It is a daring incident. We will arrest them soon. There are two entry points in the house. They must have used the second exit to escape.
Station House Officer Ramesh Chand said: The owner doesnt know what vehicle they had come in. We have questioned the neighbours. None of them seems to have seen the youths, he added.
Verma said they had intensified beat patrolling in the area, especially around noon. I request people to inform the police control room if they come across any suspicious person or activity in their neighbourhood, he added.
