Dabwali fire victim clears exam

Though the scars of the Dabwali fire might have faded to some extent on Bobby’s body after 22 surgeries, the memories of that day are still fresh.

Though the scars of the Dabwali fire might have faded to some extent on Bobby’s body after 22 surgeries, the memories of that day are still fresh. The ill-fated day of December 23,1995,when he was just three years old, changed Bobby’s life forever.

DAV Model School students recalled the incident and said,“Our annual function was organised in a marriage palace. Then the fire broke out and everybody started running aimlessly to save their lives.” Bobby is currently studying in DAV Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 15.

His mother Aditi Girdhar said,“We cannot forget that day. We had hardly entered and dropped Bobby with other students when the fire broke out. When we could not find him there,we went to the hospital. It was difficult to recognise children,as they were badly burnt. It was Bobby who called us. We recognised him by his voice.”

Bobby and his parents are now happy that he has cleared Class X with good grades. “More than three months are wasted in the process of surgery that he has to undergo every year. We are happy that he has scored well despite that,” added Aditi. “At times we feel bad when we see him getting depressed,” said his father Jitender Girdhar.
