Normalcy returned to the city as the curfew was relaxed till 10 pm on Tuesday. The incidents of violence had brought this industrial town to a halt in the last few days. “The city is peaceful now and so we have relaxed the curfew,” said SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill. The city which had been swamped with men in khakhi since Friday, had less number of policemen on the roads today. The police forces from outside, however, will remain in the city for a few days, the SSP added. As the curfew was relaxed, the city sprung back to life. The roads were jammed with traffic, the district courts, offices and banks opened after remaining shut since Friday. Schools and colleges also resumed classes. DC Vikas Garg, meanwhile, appealed the residents to maintain peace in the city. While peace returned to the city,it is still struggling due to shortage of essential items. The supply of milk, bread, butter, curd, eggs, vegetables, and cooking gas was the worst hit. The vegetable prices sky rocketed over the last few days because of shortage of supply.”The trucks were not allowed to enter the city due to the curfew and we had limited stock. The situation would have gone bad had the curfew been extended,” said Rajan,a wholesale vegetable seller.
