CTU introduces QR code-based journey planning at bus shelters
According to CTU officials, the system is designed to function as a one-stop information hub for public transport users.

Commuters in Chandigarh will now find it easier to plan their bus journeys, as the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) on Monday introduced QR code-enabled journey planning services at interstate terminals and Bus Queue Shelters (BQS) across the city.
With this new feature, passengers waiting at bus stops can simply scan a QR code displayed at the shelter using their smartphones. Once scanned, they will be redirected to a web page where they can enter their destination and access real-time information about bus arrival timings, available routes, and schedules.
According to CTU officials, the system is designed to function as a one-stop information hub for public transport users. It will display not only the expected arrival times of buses but also provide complete route details, enabling travellers to choose the most convenient and time-efficient option for their journey.
As per CTU officials, the initiative will enhance the commuting experience, particularly for daily passengers, tourists, and new residents unfamiliar with the city’s public transport network.
“This step will transform the way people travel within Chandigarh. With real-time data available at their fingertips, commuters will be able to make informed decisions and reduce waiting time at bus stops,” a CTU spokesperson said.
The move is part of CTU’s broader efforts to modernise the city’s transport system and promote the use of public transport by leveraging technology. The initiative will also encourage eco-friendly travel by making buses a more reliable and user-friendly option, an official added.
