The Special Court of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Judge Darshan Singh on Tuesday framed corruption charges against former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) zonal director Sunil Kumar Sekhri in connection with a year old case.
Sekhri was arrested on September 6,2009,in Delhi on charges of demanding bribe from a factory owner for not registering a narcotics case against the owner. The CBI had registered a case on charges of corruption against Sekhri under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Sekhri was later granted bail on October 14,2009.
He was arrested after the owner of a pharmaceutical factory in Baddi lodged a complaint against him with the Anti-Corruption Branch,Chandigarh, and gave its copy to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the CBI. The complainant had alleged that Sekhri demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from him, threatening to book him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The complainant,Rajesh Dua,had alleged Sekhri along with the superintendent of his office had raided the premises of his factory in Baddi on July 23,2009,and inspected his firms records. He had claimed though the records were correct,Sekhri took them away and told him to visit the formers office in Chandigarh.
Dua had alleged that he met the suspect on July 24 and July 25,2009 Duas office. He had claimed that Sekhri returned the firms records but demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from him to refrain from filing a narcotics case against him.
Sekhri further asked him to meet him near a cinema hall in Prashant Vihar in Delhi. He said he met Sekhri there where the latter again demanded Rs 2 lakh. Thereafter Dua informed CBI sleuths. The Anti Corruption Branch, which had laid a trap in Delhi, caught Sekhri accepting the money on September 6,2009.
