Stepping up pressure on the issue of corruption, the opposition Congress on Friday demanded removal of Health Minister Rajeev Bindal from the Cabinet.

The Health Minister, who is facing charges of having acquired huge property both within and outside the state, was also in the House when the Congress MLAs protested in the House.

It all started after the House took up obituary references as Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Vidya Stokes asked Speaker Tulsi Ram about the fate of an adjournment motion which she had moved to demand a discussion on the Health Minister’s assets and into the allegations relating to his properties at Solan,Sirmour and elsewhere in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

The Speaker informed Stokes that he had rejected the motion as it was not within the rules. Any such motion,he said, should be moved at least an hour before the House proceedings for the day started. Today’s notice was given to the secretary of the Assembly at 10.30 am,just half an hour before the House assembled at 11 am.

“It’s shocking that a minister facing charges of cheating poorest of the poor by buying their land was allowed to continue in the government,” Stokes said. “What else is needed by Chief Minister (Prem Kumar Dhumal) to act against the minister as there is a whole lot of documentary proof in the public domain?”
