The Congress in Haryana Thursday released a ‘charge sheet’ against the state’s BJP government, questioning it on the issues such as unemployment and law and order, and announced that it will launch a state-wide ‘Haryana Maange Hisab Abhiyan’ on July 15.

As part of the campaign, Congress leaders would tour all the 90 Assembly segments in the next two months and highlight the failures of the state government, state party chief Udai Bhan told a press conference.

Former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, former Union minister Birender Singh, and the newly elected Lok Sabha MPs from the state attended the event. Sirsa’s MP Kumari Selja, however, was conspicuous by her absence.

“Through this statewide drive, we will not only highlight and expose the failures of the government, but our workers and leaders will also seek suggestions from the public which we will incorporate in our poll manifesto. When our party forms the government, people’s problems can be solved effectively,” Hooda said.

Udai Bhan said, “A meeting of the party has been called in Sonipat on the July 14 to prepare a roadmap for implementing this campaign. The Congress party has asked 15 questions to BJP on different issues in the chargesheet,” Udai Bhan said.

He claimed that unemployment has increased in Haryana, with two lakh government posts lying vacant, including 60,000 in the education sector and 20,000 each in the police and health sectors. Various scams and paper leaks have taken place during the current BJP regime, he said, adding Haryana today is the most unsafe state, with the crime graph rising. Atrocities on Dalits have increased, while crimes against women were on the rise in the state. The Congress leader said traders in the state receive extortion calls as criminals have no fear and drug menace has risen under the BJP rule, affecting the youths. Farmers only received ‘lathis’ during this regime, he said
He said he and Hooda will undertake a ‘Rath Yatra’ in the state after August 20.

On the INLD and the BSP tying up for Haryana Assembly polls, Hooda said, like in the Lok Sabha polls, in Assembly polls too, “People will not give vote to ‘vote katu’ (vote cutters) parties; there is no place for such parties in Haryana. The fight is between the Congress and the BJP”.

Replying to a question, Bhan reiterated that the Congress was capable of fighting all 90 seats on its own. Birender Singh said that BJP plays divisive politics and should not even be an alternative party in the country’s politics.

Singh, who had joined the BJP in 2014 after snapping four-decade-old ties with the Congress, rejoined the grand old party earlier this year. “BJP could not understand Haryana politically and socially. It always carried out politics of fanaticism and casteism. That is why this government proved to be a failure on every front,” he said.

Lok Sabha MP Deepender Hooda said Lok Sabha results have given a clear message that the people of Haryana want change in the state and Congress is going to form the government.

Raising the issue of protesting farmers, party MP Varun Chaudhary said, “BJP never listened to the voice of the public and suppressed every voice through lathis and bullets”. Satpal Brahmachari, also a Lok Sabha MP, added, “People are fed up with the policies and attitude of BJP, and the Congress is sure to form the government in Haryana”.
